Heard On The Lot:

I feel driven in this field like I never have in any other. I am inspired and excited. And filmmaking is not just a dream for me, it's the next thing I'm going to do.

Checking in 2010.....Some Ideas about getting behind camera.

Submitted by ericcastro on Thu, 10/21/2010 - 23:11

Its been a year already since my last post.
Wow!

Well, as a Cinematographer goes, not a lot new has happened.
I came to a point where I decided to not shoot anything I didnt believe in, or wouldnt look great.
My long winded reasoning below.

Things are changing like in the seventies. (like that book, "Raging Bull,...." I dont know, that hollywood book everyone reads).
I remember going to film school and listening to everyone talk about how DV (yes, not even HD yet), was gonna take over the whole film world.
"Film is dead !!" they would say, and debate over the subject like inspired minds do over heartfelt ideas and beliefs.

Eric Castro...."Friends", Music Video

Submitted by ericcastro on Sun, 11/29/2009 - 23:00

Just a quick look at a music video I shot a few months back. The video was shot on some sort of HD/DV thing. Probably the Sony EX1 if I remember correctly. We used 2 cameras and a lighting package that could fit in the back of a truck.

Eric Castro......Gaffer Reel

So there it is, but lets get into it a little.

There really is no such thing as a "Gaffers Reel".
You hear people ask for it once in awhile. And its usually a good sign that the person is fresh out of film school or worse.

Eric Castro......the cliff notes since 2003 Graduation.

Submitted by ericcastro on Mon, 10/19/2009 - 23:40

Hello,
I figured this is the easiest way to stop by and say hi. I usually make it back north for the holidays, and always miss you guys since school is out.
Sooooooooo, since 03.
Worked for 2 years in Seattle after graduation.
Moved to Hollywood, or North Hollywood that is.
Worked as a Grip and Electrician on every crappy indie movie that would pay anything, or sometimes just to meet contacts.
Couple years later I am working as a Gaffer along side of Emmy Nominated Cinematographer Sion Michel, ACS.
As Sion started shooting more and more overseas I spent about a year Gaffing for the Hallmark Channel, Spike and Ion, as Well as moving up to B Camera Operator and 2nd Unit DP.

That position put me into contact with Alicia Coppola, (no relation, watch Jericho)
